Monday 6th May

Monday was a pretty slow day, I had a lecture which was actually really interesting; it was about homo/sexual-nationalism and feel like I learned a lot about our current society and politics. I just wish I had had the confidence to discuss the topic in class because I feel like I had some good ideas, I'm just too shy to actually speak in front of so many people....

Since I went to Milan on Tuesday, I spend the afternoon packing/preparing to fly so it was pretty uneventful. I always try do as little as possible the day before I travel anywhere because I tend to get pretty antsy about the things that could possibly go wrong.

In the evening I watched High School Musical, definitely not the best film in the trilogy, but was still fun.

Tuesday 7th May

Tuesday was very exciting, I finally went to Italy. Whilst Milan may not be the best spot in Italy to visit, the flights and accommodation were very cheap so I couldn't complain. My flight was pretty early so I was in Milan by midday. I went for lunch at McDonalds, it's something I do on every city break because I love to see the different menus, and I have to admit, the Italian McDonalds probably has one of the best menus I have seen so far.

After checking in, I spent the late afternoon wandering around the Duomo and in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, which were honestly some of the prettiest buildings I have ever seen. I also ventured down to the canals, which were pretty lack luster, if I'm being completely honest. But I did find a great pizza place, Coke, in the area. The food was delicious and the pizza was pretty big, it took me over 40 minutes to eat it, which is insane.

Wednesday 8th May

It was raining for most of Wednesday, which is so typical for my first city break to a warmer European city... So I made the most of the morning by visiting the Arco della Pace, which was initially designed by Napoleon III but, following the 1815 Congress of Vienna, it was dedicated to peace in Europe. When the rain started I headed into Sforzesco Castle, which had a lot of interesting monuments; there were about 5 different exhibits across the castle which were pretty interesting.

For lunch, I found a small cafe and had a piadina, similar to a toasted sandwich but with crispy bread. It was great, and I sort of wish we had them in the UK too because it was perfect for lunch.

I also went to the shopping district, I loved looking in all of the shops, there are so many more options than here in Copenhagen, I just wish I needed some new clothes to justify buying anything. I also went and browsed in some of the discount designer stores but, I was still too poor to even buy anything in there... In the shopping district, I also visited Pasticceria Cova which was probably the fanciest place I have ever been. I loved the treats and I was so relieved when the bill arrived and I realised I hadn't broken the bank because I expected a hefty price when I realised it was more expensive to sit down and eat. Although the tea did cost €7 but the confectionary was good value for money so I can't complain.

For tea, I went to a pasta restaurant, it was interesting; didn't look like any sort of pasta I had ever eaten before, but still tasted great!

Thursday 9th May

Since it was my last day in Milan, I checked out pretty early so I could head to the Duomo and buy a terrace pass before most other tourists were out. I ended up spending about two hours in/on the Duomo because it was so pretty, although the building works kinda ruined the atmosphere inside. I also saw the vertical forest, which was so cool, it would be a dream to live in a building like that! I also had some amazing ice cream since it was finally warm, and when in Italy it would be a crime not to. It was so good, I loved the coconut ice cream I had although coconut isn't usually a flavour I tend to enjoy much.

I had a quick lunch at Luini's, which was pretty good and pretty cheap to say it's so central and was so busy. But then had to head back to the hostel to pick up my luggage and head off to Milano Centrale to catch the train to the airport. It turned out I got to the airport way too early since the flight was delayed by about an hour (thanks France) which made the journey home a little boring and tiresome. Although I did love having a window seat as we flew over the Alps, because the views were so pretty.

Friday 10th May

As I got home pretty late, I didn't do much in the morning before my lecture. Friday's are usually my most boring day but after class I went to the KU Spring Festival which was good. We ate great food, which was apparently a traditional Danish meal (yay for finally eating Danish food) and saw two Danish artists, Phlake and Carl Emil Petersen. They were both pretty good but I was so tired from the rest of the week that we didn't stay much longer because all I wanted to do was catch up on sleep.

Saturday 11th May

The sunny weather had returned to Copenhagen so I cycled (for the first time in about two months) to Frederiksberg and visited Hart Bageri and the gardens. I actually enjoyed the bike ride, I saw a few new places in Copenhagen and there was virtually no wind, although my legs still hurt today which isn't great.

I spent the rest of the afternoon watching Parks and Rec. which I am loving at the moment, so nothing too exciting.

Sunday 12th May

Since I had done virtually no work all week, I went to the Main Copenhagen Library again to do a couple of hours of work on my gender essay. I quite like working in the main library since it isn't silent, and I can do a lot of people watching when taking a break from my work. I also managed to buy another new rejsekort since I lost mine (again) on Friday evening at the festival...

I was pretty productive and managed to write about 2 pages (would be 3 but KU counts pages differently to an actual page...) so decided to treat myself with baking some brownies. They didn't turn out as good as my last ones (I got bored of whisking so gave up a bit too soon, I think) but I love chocolate, so they are fine for me.
