I finally made it to Italy, after finding some cheap flights and a cheap hostel, I had no excuse but to go to Milan. This post is being written long after my visit to Milan, because I'm utterly useless at keeping this blog updated, so thought I would just share photographs of my trip. Whilst Milan wasn't my favourite city break, it was still a pretty city so I managed to take lots of photos.
What to Do
Since Milan isn't the most touristy city, I spent the majority of my time there just wandering around the streets. However, there are a few activities that I thought were pretty fun. I ended up getting a travel pass, which made travel around the city effortless. I didn't do much on my first day. I just walked around the city for the most part. I ended up going down to the canals, which weren't that impressive, if I'm being totally honest.
I spent the majority of my second day at the Castello Sforzesco due to the fact that it rained for most of the day, which is so typical for me. The museum was huge, so is definitely worth a visit if you need to spend the day inside, and I definitely learned a lot. I also went to see the Arco della Pace, which was pretty impressive. I liked learning about what it came to represent, even if the peace in Europe didn't last very long.
I also ended up looking at some of the Roman(?) ruins around the city, which were also pretty cool.
The Chiesa di San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore is also worth a visit, the church was so serene and there was barely any tourists inside.
A visit to the Duomo Terrace should not be missed. I went at about 10/11am which was the perfect time to go. The queues were basically non-existent which was great since I had heard it can be a long wait, and there were barely any people on the terrace. Inside, the cathedral is beautiful. It is insane how big it is, and it was nice to sit and just embrace the quiet in the midst of a city break.
Whilst at the Duomo, I also checked out the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II which was insanely pretty. A group of men were also singing in the centre of the parade which was adorable, especially when they asked some women in the crowd to dance with them.
I also went to see the Bosco Verticale, which is honestly my dream apartment. It was so cool, and I would honestly love to live somewhere surrounded by so many plants.
Where to Eat
I ate so much good food, when in Italy it would be a crime not to eat my bodyweight in pasta and pizza, even if Milan specialises in risotto. I went to Luini's, the queue was insane but the food was soooo good and so affordable considering the location of the shop. I also ate an amazing pizza at Coke by the canals, and pasta at Pasta d’Autore and loved the idea of the restaurant. The pasta was delicious! I had amazing ice cream in ODEON, which overlooked the Duomo - who knew coconut ice cream could taste so good? I also had a piadina from L’Isola Della Piadina and I really want to know why piadina's are not popular in the UK because it was a perfect lunchtime meal!
