So my first week back in Copenhagen has been a whirlwind! Christmas was great (and it was so nice to have no deadlines in January for the first time in forever) but I was definitely ready to get back when February came around. I only had one class this week so (aside from watched 3 series of New Girl) I managed to visit a couple of the museums I've been wanting to visit since I first moved here.
Rosenborg Castle is still one of my favourite place in Copenhagen, and I fell in love with the Knight's Hall and the Marble Room. The castle was a lot bigger than it looked on the outside, it's crazy to believe that it was only a holiday home for the royal family back in the day. It was interesting to see how there was a fair share item with diamanté-like jewels stuck to them; they definitely looked like they had been designed by a seven year old. We also saw the crown jewels which were cool. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the city, but wrap up warm as the castle gets very cold.
After touring the castle, we went to Café Det Vide Hus, it was such a cosy cafe so will definitely be a go to if I'm in the city centre and fancy a cuppa.
I also went to the Design Museum which was pretty cool (and free - which is always a bonus). The chair room didn't disappoint, even though a lot of the chairs were pretty ugly. My favourite part of the museum as probably looking at the items from the 1960s and 1970s. I was surprised at how many items from the 1930s looked so modern, in my head I imagined everything to be a bit more dingy during the early 20th century so it was interesting to learn that there were some items a bit ahead of their time. I'm hoping to go to the museum again as half of it was closed for reconstruction.
On our way back to the centre we also stumbled into a random church. For some reason, I've recently started to enjoy looking in churches, the architecture and interior design are usually stunning, and I find the atmosphere to be quite calming.
It's been a pretty good week in Copenhagen, I'm so happy to be back - I love living in the city so I want to make the most of my second semester here. Next week will probably be a bit slower, I lost my Rejsekort so the metro will be expensive until my replacement arrives and I've almost given up on cycling because the wind on Amager is horrendous. So I think I'm going to try and get ahead of my university reading, last semester I managed to finish my seminar work within the first few weeks which meant I was virtually free of uni work until my exams came up. Hopefully, the same thing will happen this semester so I can spend the warmer months exploring some Danish cities and towns.
