I can't believe that 2018 is over! Whilst I'm not a fan of the whole 'new year, new me' malarkey, I do like the clean break that comes with the New Year that I can use to try and work on bits of my life I wasn't completely happy with during the past year. I thought it would be a good idea to write down what my goals for the year were so that I had a place that I could revisit throughout the year to check my progress, so here goes....
Eat More Vegetarian Meals
When at uni I would say I eat vegetarian meals 90% of the time, I usually only eat meat if I want a quick ready meal or I'm eating out. Whilst I'm happy that I have managed to cut down the amount of meat I eat (I used to eat it everyday at one point) I want to try and eat more vegetarian options whilst eating out and try new foods rather than stick to what I know and like - especially as more and more restaurants are offering more meat-free options.
Spend Less on Snacks
In Leeds, I rarely snacked on chocolate and crisps but my self-control has gone down the drain in Copenhagen. Living opposite a supermarket the size of a village is a pain as I always find myself wandering around the aisles looking for the snacks that are on offer whenever I'm peckish. This year, I intend to buy more fruit and healthier snacks as the amount of chocolate I seem to be eating on a daily basis is ridiculous (even for me).
Try and Drink More Water
Even drinking anything is a chore for me most of the time, but I want to try and drink more water as when I did so at the start of last year I could honestly feel the benefits - less headaches, better skin, etc. Ciara bought me a Chilly's water bottle for Christmas and I LOVE it! I'm going to start tracking how much water I drink and aim for 1.5 litres each day. Hopefully, drinking more water will also help me cut down on my snacking too!
Read 30 Books
I've set my Goodreads target for 2019 as 30 books. I had been in a reading slump for most of 2018 (until October or so) so just missed out on reaching my goal of 10 books as I was a third of a way through a 1000 page book at the end of the year. However, I'm definitely a fan of reading again and know that I can easily read a couple of books each month if I find more authors and genres that I enjoy.
Say 'Yes' to More Stuff
Copenhagen has made me into a different person and has definitely made me brave enough to be more adventurous so I want to continue this in 2019. I would love to go on a few solo trips (Portugal, I'm looking at you!) and even get involved in more social activities even if they feel a bit intimidating at first because I want to make more amazing memories whilst in Denmark and not look back on my year abroad with any regrets! Hopefully, this will also allow me to get out of my flat more often too as I can easily spend days cooped up inside without feeling the need to get out, which is definitely not a healthy habit to have...
More Physical Activity
I got into a bad habit of getting the metro everywhere by the end of the semester so would like start cycling more often and stop hating Langebro for its incline which is an actual killer. I'm pretty active in the UK so want to continue this trend in Denmark, even if I only do a 10 minute home workout, I want to do more exercise as it is something I really do enjoy but seem to find an excuse to skip.
